The Osun State Government has intensified preventive measures against the possible spread of Ebola virus into the state, assuring residents that necessary preparations have been put in place through the Ministry of Health.

The government also approved the appointment of Babatunde Omotosho Tajudeen as the new Onijabe of Ijabeland, alongside the appointment of other traditional rulers and the elevation of some traditional chiefs to recognised chieftaincy status.

The decisions were reached at the first meeting of the State Executive Council following the governorship election, held on Friday in Osogbo.

According to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, the council deliberated extensively on the Ebola threat and approved an action plan submitted by the Ministry of Health.

The government said its response was focused on prevention and preparedness, noting that no case of Ebola had been reported in the state as of the time of the announcement.

The Commissioner for Health, Jola Akintola, appealed to public and private hospitals across the state to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases to the appropriate health authorities.

The government said the measures were designed to ensure that the state remained prepared to respond effectively to any suspected case, in line with ongoing surveillance, contact tracing and emergency preparedness efforts at the federal level.

It urged healthcare providers to cooperate with the relevant authorities and maintain a high level of alertness to prevent the possible introduction and spread of the virus.

On traditional institutions, the council approved the appointment of Babatunde Omotosho Tajudeen as the Onijabe of Ijabeland with immediate effect.

The approval followed the setting aside of the 2018 Amended Onijabe of Ijabe Chieftaincy Declaration and a review of the selection process that produced the new monarch.

The council also approved the appointment of several traditional rulers across different local government areas and local council development areas in the state.

They include Oloyede Samuel Oyekanmi Adewale as the Olugbense of Agurodo in Ejigbo West Local Government Area; Prince Adewusi Adetunji Hamsat as the Alaba of Alaba-Ijesa in Atakumosa West Local Government Area; and Chief Adedoyin Muritala Adewale as the Akogun of Ife in Ife East Local Government Area.
Others are Prince Bab
