Save Regina: OAU student battles kidney failure, needs N40m for transplant

News

Miss Regina Abosede Babalola, an 18-year-old undergraduate of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, is in critical condition as she battles end-stage kidney failure.

A 100-level student in the Department of English, she needs ₦40 million for a life-saving kidney transplant.

Diagnosed in May 2025, she has since been receiving dialysis and specialist care at Purplemed Specialist Medical and Kidney Center, Old Bodija, Ibadan, Oyo State.

However, doctors have now recommended transplant within two weeks to save her life.

With her parents unable to afford the staggering cost, friends, fellow students, and church members have launched a passionate appeal to the public for assistance.

The Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON), Catholic Diocese of Osogbo where Regina is an active member has taken the lead in mobilizing support.

In a heartfelt appeal signed by the Osogbo Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Olaniyan, the group called on all Catholics and kind-hearted Nigerians to donate generously.

“One of our active CYON members, Miss Babalola Regina, has been diagnosed with a kidney problem and urgently requires a transplant costing ₦40 million.

“We appeal to all to support this cause and save a precious life.

“Kindly remember her in your prayers as well,” the statement read.

A fundraising banner accompanying the appeal bears Regina’s picture and donation details.
