Authorities of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, RUGIPO, have debunked what they called a misleading report about a dead young man identified wrongly as a student of the institution.
The deceased, Mr Audi Emmanuel, reportedly died at his residence at Emure Ile, near Owo, few days ago.
But RUGIPO’s Management in a statement on Wednesday by its spokesman, Mr Olumide Olugosi, said the deceased was not a student of the institution.
According to the statement: “The Institution states unequivocally that there is no record of any student bearing the name Audi Emmanuel in the Department of Computer Engineering Technology or in any other department, including the Continuing Education Centre.”
Following is the full statement:”The Management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), has expressed sympathy over the reported death of a young man, Audi Emmanuel, in Emure-Ile, Owo Local Government Area, who was wrongly identified in some reports as a student of the Polytechnic.
“The Institution states unequivocally that there is no record of any student bearing the name Audi Emmanuel in the Department of Computer Engineering Technology or in any other department, including the Continuing Education Centre.
“However, further checks indicate that one Audu Emmanuel was offered admission into the Polytechnic to study Computer Science (National Diploma) during the 2024/2025 academic session.
“Available records show that the individual did not complete his academic programme, having failed to sit for institutional examinations, and is therefore not recognised as an active or bona fide student of the institution.
“The Polytechnic therefore states categorically that portraying the deceased as a student of the institution is inaccurate, unverified, and misleading, and capable of creating a wrong impression about the Polytechnic.
“While commiserating with the family of the deceased, the Management urges members of the public and the media to refrain from spreading unverified information, particularly in view of the discrepancies surrounding the identity and status of the individual.
“The Institution reiterates its commitment to factual accuracy, institutional integrity, and the dissemination of responsible information.”
