Saudi authorities have issued an emergency alert in Makkah Al Mukarramah, advising residents and visitors to shelter in place.
The alert was disseminated on Tuesday through the National Early Warning Platform for Emergencies, according to the Saudi Civil Defense.
Authorities did not specify the nature of the potential danger.
In a statement, the Civil Defense urged residents and visitors to remain calm and immediately move to the nearest safe location, preferably inside a building or an interior room away from windows, and remain there until the danger passes.
The agency advised the public to stay away from open areas, windows, balconies and rooftops. Those outdoors were instructed to enter the nearest building or seek shelter behind a solid barrier.
Motorists who receive the alert were advised to pull over away from bridges and high-rise buildings.
The Civil Defense also urged the public to avoid gatherings and dangerous areas and to follow instructions issued through official channels.
