The new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey S. Ewah has assumed duty.
He takes vharge of Zone 11, with responsibility for policing Osun and Oyo states.
Ewah officially took over the leadership of the zone on Monday, September 14, 2026, following his posting to the zonal headquarters in Osogbo.
His assumption of office marks the beginning of a new phase in the administration and coordination of policing operations across the two states, particularly in the areas of crime prevention, intelligence-led policing, public safety, inter-agency collaboration and maintenance of law and order.
He is an indigene of Etung Local Government Area of Cross River State. He was born on July 28, 1968, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.
A statement issued by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji, the new police helmsman joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992, beginning a career that has spanned more than three decades of service in various operational, administrative, instructional and command positions.
Throughout his career, AIG Ewah has served in several strategic formations of the Nigeria Police Force, gaining extensive experience in both field operations and police administration.
Before his posting to Zone 11, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 15, Maiduguri. He had also served as Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, where he was entrusted with the responsibility of providing leadership for the state command and coordinating efforts to address security challenges.
His career also includes a stint as Deputy Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, where he contributed to the training and development of police personnel.
At the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Ewah served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, Federal Operations, while in Lagos State he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration, and also as the second-in-command of the Lagos State Police Command.
The new Zone 11 AIG also served as Area Commander in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, giving him additional exposure to policing in a major metropolitan and economically strategic environment..
His experience in police training and human capacity development is equally extensive. He served as Director, Liberal Studies, at the Police Staff College and was Course Coordinator for Cadet Course 27 ASP, as well as Course Officer for several Senior Leadership Course, Tactical Leadership Course and Operational Leadership Course programmes between 2016 and 2019.
These assignments exposed him to the development of police officers at different levels of the command structure and further strengthened his experience in leadership, professional ethics, operational planning and institutional administration.
Earlier in his career, AIG Ewah served as Divisional Police Officer in several divisions within Enugu State, including Uwani Trans-Ekulu, Abakpa, New Haven, Garki Akunanaw Gari and 9th Mile divisions, among others.
He also served on three occasions as the second-in-command of the Department of Operations of the Enugu State Police Command.
His career trajectory further saw him serve as Officer-in-Charge of the State Intelligence Bureau, Patrol Commander in Enugu State, second-in-command of MOPOL 3, Enugu, and Squadron Commander of the 7 PMF in Sokoto State.
He had also served as Personal Assistant to Commissioners of Police in MOPOL, Anambra and Enugu commands, and was a member of the Inspector-General of Police’s Monitoring Team between 1995 and 2000.
During the same period, he served as Training Officer at MOPOL 2, Lagos State, as well as Provost of MOPOL 2, Lagos, at Keffi/Obalende.
His early policing career also included service as Administrative Officer, Operations Officer and Divisional Traffic Officer at the Jalingo Divisional Headquarters of the Taraba State Police Command, as well as a one-year attachment to Bali Division of the command..
Beyond his field and command appointments, AIG Ewah has undergone several professional and leadership training programmes designed to broaden his operational knowledge and prepare him for higher responsibilities within the police hierarchy.
Among the courses he attended are the Advanced Detective Course, Police Mobile Training Courses at Gwoza, including Unit Commander, Second-in-Command Unit Commander and Squadron Commander courses.
He also attended the Operation and Leadership Command Course in 1995, Tactical Leadership Course at the Police Staff College in 2010 and Strategic Leadership Course at the Staff College in 2016.
His professional exposure extends beyond the Nigeria Police Force. He participated in Operation Haske Biu at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, in 2010 and later served as Directing Staff for the same programme in 2017
.
AIG Ewah has also attended United Nations and African Union courses on Human Resource Management in Ethiopia, in addition to other professional courses in Kenya and Rwanda.
With his extensive operational background, command experience, training exposure and administrative knowledge, the new Zone 11 AIG is expected to bring considerable experience to the policing of Osun and Oyo states.
Zone 11 covers two states with diverse security and socio-economic environments and includes major urban centres, interstate transportation corridors, commercial communities and several rural areas requiring effective intelligence gathering and coordinated security operations
.
His assumption of duty therefore comes at a time when effective policing, community engagement, intelligence sharing and cooperation among security agencies remain important to maintaining peace and public confidence.
The Police authorities said the new zonal leadership would continue to focus on the protection of lives and property, prevention and detection of crime, maintenance of law and order and effective collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The command also assured members of the public of its continued commitment to providing effective security services and creating an environment conducive to peaceful social and economic activities across Osun and Oyo states.
The police urged residents, community leaders, traditional institutions, religious organisations, civil society groups and other stakeholders to continue supporting security agencies by providing useful information that could assist in preventing crime and protecting communities.
AIG Ewah’s assumption of office effectively places him at the helm of police coordination in the two states under Zone 11, with expectations that his wealth of experience in operations, intelligence, administration, training and strategic leadership will strengthen the security architecture of the zone.
