The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken a significant step toward sustainable policing and improved operational efficiency with the acquisition of three specialised buses, as part of a broader plan to modernise its fleet and embrace green energy solutions.
The vehicles were officially handed over through a collaboration between the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPF-TF) and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (PI-CNG & EV), marking the commencement of the Force’s transition to cleaner energy.
The event attracted top officials from both organisations. The NPF-TF delegation included its Executive Secretary, Mohammad Sheidu, alongside CP Tony Emafale, Alhaji Sanusi Aliyu, QS Lawal Aliyu, and Oritsemi Banigo. Representing PI-CNG & EV was its Chief Executive Officer, Barrister Ismail Ahmed, OON, supported by Mrs. Tari Mayor-Knight, Mr. Tosin Coker, Mrs. Omolara Obileye, Mrs. Hadiza Lawal, Onyekachi Eke, and Theodora Nwaodim.
Speakers at the ceremony described the donation as the first phase of a long-term initiative aimed at overhauling the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police through the adoption of modern, energy-efficient technologies.
They disclosed plans to convert existing police operational vehicles to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), a move expected to significantly cut fuel costs and reduce the environmental impact of police operations nationwide.
Beyond fleet upgrades, the partnership will also focus on capacity building, including training of personnel and the development of technical expertise required to sustain the initiative.
Responding, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the NPF-TF and PI-CNG & EV for what he described as a forward-thinking intervention.
He noted that transitioning to CNG and electric-powered vehicles is not only economically beneficial but also aligns the Nigeria Police Force with global best practices in logistics management and environmental sustainability.
According to the IGP, the newly acquired buses will enhance personnel mobility and welfare, particularly in operational deployments.
He further revealed plans to establish internal vehicle conversion centres within the Force, a strategy aimed at ensuring self-sufficiency in maintaining and upgrading its fleet.
“This initiative represents a strategic shift in how we manage our resources and operations. It will not only improve efficiency but also position the Nigeria Police Force as a forward-looking institution in line with global standards,”
The ceremony concluded with the symbolic handover of keys and an inspection tour of the vehicles.
The collaboration highlights a shared commitment to equipping the Nigeria Police Force with modern, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly mobility solutions, reinforcing its readiness to meet contemporary security demands while adapting to evolving energy realities.
