Don’t sell your conscience for money

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*Several people are out there who can do anything to acquire money. Such people are ever ready to part with anything, including their conscience, for money.*

*Some have no consideration whatsoever for the relationships they have built over the years or perhaps, for what people will say when it comes to their decisions on money matters.*

*May I tell you that you don’t really know who a man is until it comes to money matters or he is saddled with money in his hand, or power in his kitty.*

*I think the question we should ask ourselves is : “will consideration for money make you bend your character in the face of financial temptations and gains?”*

*No doubt, the 10 brothers of Joseph hated him, but selling him to gain money became an irrestistable temptation to them. And the poor boy Joseph was let go and sold into slavery :*

*”Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty pieces of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt”.(Gen 37:28)*

*In another instance, can you imagine a man who had served as your close ally and lieutenant for about three years, holding critical office around you, not just betraying you, but selling you for money?*

*This was what Judas Iscariot did to his Master – Jesus.*

*Matthew 26:[14] Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,*
*[15]And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.*
*[16]And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.*

*Several people’s attitude is getting money by all means : legitimate or otherwise. Today, this situation has now been worsened by the global economy that is presently going through a meltdown or complete dislocation.*

*Several people don’t mind the consequences of their pursuit, so long as money is the ultimate catch.*

*And if consequences will not deter a man in his drive for money, then such a person is simply conscienceless in the inordinate ambition to make money.*

*Such a man can kill the next fellow or cannibalize the entire society to make money.*

*The love of money has become a cancer eating up our modern day society. No wonder the Word of God says :*

*”For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows”. (1Tim.6:10)*

*Please let us be careful how we seek money. It should not be at the expense of our conscience.*

Top of the day to you 👍
