The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Osun State Council, has congratulated journalists across the state on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day, commending their dedication, resilience, and commitment to professionalism despite the challenges facing the media industry.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Adeyemi Aboderin, and Secretary, Olalekan Akindoju, the union described journalists as critical stakeholders in the promotion of democracy, accountability, and good governance.
The Council praised media practitioners in Osun for their courage and commitment to balanced, factual, and responsible reporting, noting that their sacrifices in the line of duty remain invaluable to societal development.
The NUJ, however, called on media organisations, government institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to prioritise the welfare, safety, and working conditions of journalists.
It stressed that a free, well-motivated, and protected press is vital for democratic growth and national development.
The union also urged journalists to uphold the core values of accuracy, fairness, objectivity, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
While wishing journalists a peaceful and fulfilling Workers’ Day celebration, the Council reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights and welfare of media practitioners in Osun State.
