Tinubu meets Musa, reviews Nigeria’s security challenges

President Bola Tinubu on Monday held a high-level security meeting with the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), in Lagos.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Residence, centred on the country’s defence strategy and ongoing efforts to tackle insurgency and banditry.

A statement by Leah Katung-Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Defence, disclosed this.

The statement said the President and the minister also discussed ways to improve coordination among security agencies in the ongoing efforts to strengthen national security.

Tinubu was said to have expressed satisfaction with progress recorded in securing communities considered vulnerable to attacks.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary support to the Ministry of Defence to enhance its operations.

During the meeting, Musa briefed Tinubu on ongoing defence programmes, operational requirements and proposed reforms within the military.

According to the statement, the reforms are expected to improve troop welfare and morale, modernise military equipment and strengthen defence infrastructure across the country.

Musa thanked the President for his continued support and guidance to the nation’s security apparatus, assuring that the Ministry of Defence would remain committed to its mandate.

The meeting formed part of Tinubu’s continuing security briefings and consultations with key government officials as his administration seeks to respond to security challenges across the country.
