The Sokoto State Government has denied reports that 18 students of Gamji College of Health Technology were abducted while travelling from the state to Oyo State.

The government described the report as false, insisting that no current student of the institution was involved in any abduction.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa.

Bawa urged members of the public to disregard the report, which claimed that students travelling in a chartered bus to Oyo State were intercepted and kidnapped by suspected terrorists.

“For the avoidance of doubt and to set the record straight, no student of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, was abducted by suspected terrorists,” the government stated.

According to the state government, the person involved in the incident was Halima Sokeni, a former student of Gamji College of Nursing Sciences, More Area, Sokoto State.

The government said Sokeni completed her training as a midwife in September 2026 and was travelling home on October 1 when she and other passengers were reportedly abducted in Niger State.
