The minister of Regional Development, Engnr Abubakar Momoh, has advocated a collaboration between the government and people as a new fundamental approach to secure a prosperous future for Nigeria.

He stressed this at the 5th national conference of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, which held in Abuja between 20th and 21st October 2026. It was themed “Rethinking Nation-building: Bridging the Leadership-citizen Disconnect on Orientation, Attitude, Character, Culture and Tradition towards Sustainable Development.

The minister, who was represented by his Special Assistant, Project Monitoring, SE/SW Divisions, Chief Wole Iroaye, said the theme was timely and critical to national aspirations.

He stressed the fact that balanced regional development can only be engendered when the government and people unite to promote inclusion, peace, economic opportunities and national unity.

According to him, it is through “this fundamental approach that we can duly secure a prosperous future for our nation Nigeria and its land.”

Momoh hoped that deliberations at the conference would produce recommendations that will strengthen leadership, rebuild public confidence, and advance Nigeria’s sustainable development.

He commended and urged the forum to continue what he described as its good work of providing a rich, active and consistent platform for constructive national dialogue.

He noted that the forum has actively engaged in promoting Nigeria’s oneness since its first national conference held about five years ago, stressing that this is the best way to go in fostering national cohesion.
