President Bola Tinubu on Saturday accused opposition leaders of contributing to Nigeria’s poverty and hunger, as the All Progressives Congress formally launched its campaign for his re-election in the 2027 general elections in Kaduna State.
Tinubu made the remarks at a rally held at Ranchers Bees Stadium, where he defended his administration’s efforts to address economic challenges and urged Nigerians to support him for another term.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger; they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” the President said.
The President also inaugurated the 81-kilometre Lot One section of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano dual carriageway through a symbolic ceremony, highlighting infrastructure development as part of his administration’s achievements.
Tinubu thanked Kaduna residents for supporting him in the 2023 presidential election and urged them to renew their mandate in 2027, citing projects and investments undertaken by his government in the state and across the northern region.
The rally was attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, former party leaders and other political stakeholders. The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and the wife of the Vice-President were also listed among those present.
Shettima called on Nigerians to support the President’s re-election bid, arguing that continuity would advance national unity, democratic stability and economic development. He also recalled Tinubu’s past support for northern political leaders, including former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In his remarks, Sani commended the Federal Government for supporting states in implementing development programmes, particularly in infrastructure and agriculture. He also warned APC supporters against misinformation and misleading content circulated on social media during the electioneering period.
Information Minister Mohammed Idris and other APC campaign officials expressed confidence in Tinubu’s chances in 2027, pointing to the rally’s turnout as evidence of support for the administration. However, the event also comes amid intensifying political exchanges between the ruling party and opposition figures, including former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, over the administration’s record and prospects in the next election.
