Osun State Muslim Community (OSMC) on Sunday received the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), at its secretariat in Osogbo, urging him to govern the state with the fear of God, fairness and justice if elected in the August 15 governorship election.
It also called on him to prioritise the welfare and aspirations of the people, ensure equitable distribution of resources and give due recognition to Islamic law in government policies.
Speaking during the visit, President of the community, Alhaji Mustapha Olawuyi, described Oyebamiji as a committed Muslim who has consistently supported the growth of Islam and humanity.
He stressed that while the organisation is non-partisan, it engages political actors to advocate issues affecting the Muslim community and the general public.
“Oyebamiji is known to us as a good Muslim whose immense contributions to the propagation of Islam, the Muslim Ummah and humanity cannot be overemphasised. We are not partisan as an Islamic body, but we are committed to the progress of society and the promotion of our faith.
“We have received him and presented some of our requests, particularly the need for any government that comes on board to uphold equity and justice in the distribution of resources and give due recognition to Islamic law, among other issues,” Olawuyi said.
Responding, Oyebamiji thanked the Muslim community for the warm reception and pledged to lead the state with fairness, justice and the fear of God if elected governor.
He promised to run an inclusive administration that would prioritise the welfare and well-being of all residents, regardless of religious or political affiliation.
“We will be fair, just and ensure equitable distribution of resources. I will serve the people of Osun with the utmost fear of God,” Oyebamiji said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to Islam, describing himself as a devoted Muslim, and expressed confidence of victory in the August 15 governorship election
.
Also, he pledged to promote peace before, during and after the election, assuring residents that he would support efforts aimed at ensuring a free, fair and credible electoral process.
The visit ended with members and leaders of the group warmly receiving the APC governorship candidate and his campaign team.
