The Independent National Electoral Commission has begun a three-day training programme for selected personnel in Ondo State on electronic election result processing and verification ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The exercise focuses on the Collation Support and Result Verification System, a platform designed to support the electronic processing and collation of election results with the aid of computers and specialised software.
The commission said the training was intended to reduce errors, improve accuracy and strengthen the efficiency and credibility of result collation during the 2027 general elections and subsequent off-cycle polls.
Speaking at the opening session on Monday, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ondo State, Dr Mutiu Agboke, urged participants to take the programme seriously and apply the knowledge gained to their official duties.
Agboke, who was represented by the Head of the Electoral Operations Department, Dr Tope Akanmu, welcomed the participants to the commission’s state office and stressed the importance of professionalism and commitment.
He charged the selected personnel to justify the confidence placed in them by INEC through diligence and a strong sense of responsibility.
The REC also urged them to maintain the highest standards of integrity while carrying out their assignments, particularly during the 2027 general elections.
The training is being facilitated by Victor Christopher of the Electoral Operations Department at INEC’s headquarters. It is expected to run for two more days.
The initiative forms part of the commission’s efforts to improve staff capacity, strengthen the use of technology and promote transparency and accuracy in Nigeria’s electoral process.
