Osun State Government has invited members of the public to submit memoranda to the Standing Commission of Inquiry on Disturbance of Public Peace as part of efforts to investigate complaints and allegations relating to breaches of peace across the state.
The invitation was contained in a public notice signed by the Secretary to the Commission, Philips O. Afolayan, Esq., who said the exercise aimed at gathering information from victims and other interested members of the public on incidents that have threatened peace and security in Osun State.
According to the notice, the Commission is seeking complaints, reports, and allegations relating to acts or attempted acts of violence, terrorism, hooliganism, civil disturbances, and other activities capable of disrupting public peace within the state.
The Commission directed that each memorandum should not exceed 1,500 words and must be clearly typed. It should contain an introduction to the subject matter, a statement of facts, issues for determination, arguments in support of the issues raised, and the reliefs or prayers being sought.
It further stated that all submissions must include the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and signatures of the writers.
The notice added that contributors are required to submit five hard copies of their memoranda between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, within 14 days from the date of publication.
The hard copies are to be addressed to the Office of the Secretary, Standing Commission of Inquiry on Disturbance of Public Peace, c/o Room E7, Ministry of Justice, State Government Secretariat, Osogbo.
In addition to the printed copies, the Commission directed that a soft copy in PDF format should also be forwarded via email to philipsnewday@gmail.com.
Afolayan urged residents, victims, and all stakeholders with relevant information to take advantage of the opportunity to assist the Commission in its assignment by providing credible and useful submissions.
The Commission is expected to review the memoranda as part of its mandate to investigate incidents affecting public peace and make appropriate recommendations to the Osun State Government.
