The Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun 2026 Governorship Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Remi Omowaiye, has said the party’s campaign will be issue-based ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

He also declared that the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, is on a “rescue mission” to reposition Osun State from what he described as years of poor governance.

.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Monday, he accused the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke of wasteful spending without commensurate development, despite huge allocations accruing to the state.

He alleged that Osun is currently “in doldrums” due to poor fiscal and administrative decisions of the present government.

The former Commissioner for Works maintained that Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, has the capacity to transform the state through strategic industrialisation, improved agricultural productivity, and effective implementation of the Electricity Act to boost power supply.

He added that an APC-led administration would strengthen collaboration with security agencies to tackle insecurity across the state.

Omowaiye assured that the party would focus on verifiable data, policy alternatives and governance strategies rather than propaganda in its campaign.

In a direct criticism of the current administration, he alleged that several infrastructural projects executed under Adeleke are substandard, raising concerns over the structural integrity of the Oke-Fia flyover. He challenged the governor to disclose the contractors handling the projects.

He further questioned the utilisation of security votes and ecological funds, insisting that the administration has little to show in terms of tangible achievements.

Omowaiye also criticised spending priorities, alleging that while about N92 billion had been allocated to the Governor’s Office, only about N7 billion had been invested in agriculture since Adeleke assumed office.

He described the health and education sectors as being in poor condition, alleging layoffs of medical personnel and teachers, and decrying high tuition fees at the University of Ilesa.

On energy, he noted that Osun remains the only state in the South-West yet to domesticate the Electricity Act, pledging that an Oyebamiji administration would address the gap and modernise the sector, including training local technicians in electric vehicle maintenance.

He added that the APC candidate would revitalise agricultural settlements and expand agribusiness opportunities, citing Oyebamiji’s background in farm exports as a key advantage.

Speaking alongside him, the co-chair of the Media Committee, Funke Egbemode, criticised what she described as the administration’s overemphasis on road and flyover projects at the expense of other critical sectors.

Egbemode also alleged a shortage of qualified science teachers in public schools, expressing confidence that voters would support the APC candidate in the forthcoming election.
