Osun State House of Assembly has approved the establishment of State Police following extensive deliberations on the matter during Tuesday’s plenary.
The resolution followed the transmission of the proposed constitutional amendment on State Police by the National Assembly to the various State Houses of Assembly for consideration and approval.
It would be recalled that the National Assembly passed the constitutional amendment bill on June 24, 2026, paving the way for State Houses of Assembly across the country to deliberate on the proposal.
Moving the motion for the approval and passage of the proposed State Police in Osun, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola, said the measure would strengthen security arrangements in the state.
The motion was seconded by Hon. Tajudeen Adeyemi, representing Ifelodun State Constituency.
Speaking after the resolution was adopted, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, directed that the approved amendments and resolutions of the Osun State House of Assembly be forwarded to the National Assembly for further consideration.
The Assembly also dissolved into the Committee of the Whole to consider further the Osun State Park Management System Bill, 2026.
During the consideration, lawmakers reviewed proposed corrections and amendments, directing that the approved changes be incorporated into the bill.
Meanwhile, the House also returned Hon. Rabiu Adesina as Chairman of the House Committee on Home Affairs and Tourism.
