Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has urged Nigerians to develop sound financial habits by prioritising savings, planning their expenses and reinvesting in personal development and businesses.
The actress gave the advice in a post on her Instagram page following her participation in the FIN Tribe Finance Fair 2026, where she reflected on the importance of financial discipline in achieving long-term stability.
Akindele warned against the habit of spending all one’s earnings, stressing that individuals must learn to manage their income carefully to secure their financial future.
According to her, financial discipline is essential not only for wealth creation but also for success in one’s career and other areas of life.
“Discipline is key to success in your finances, your career and everything you do,” she wrote.
She explained that her participation in the financial event reinforced the need to save a portion of one’s income rather than exhaust available resources on immediate needs and personal enjoyment.
The filmmaker acknowledged that maintaining financial discipline could be difficult but encouraged Nigerians to develop the habit through deliberate spending decisions.
She advised individuals to determine how much of their earnings should go into savings, investments and personal expenses before making purchases.
“Being disciplined isn’t always easy. Start small: before you spend, decide what you’re saving, what you’re reinvesting and what you can afford to spend. Give your money a purpose, and keep practising that habit,” she added.
Akindele also offered a personal perspective on money management, admitting that despite working hard and making efforts to manage her earnings responsibly, she did not always get everything right.
“I’m speaking to myself too. I work hard, and I have to be intentional about managing what I earn. I don’t always get it right, but I keep making the effort,” she stated.
The actress urged Nigerians who might have made poor financial decisions in the past not to allow previous mistakes to discourage them from adopting better financial practices.
She encouraged her followers to embrace saving, reinvestment and responsible spending while maintaining a balance between enjoying the present and preparing for the future.
“Whatever you may have wasted in the past, you can start making better decisions today. It’s time to brace up. Save. Reinvest. Spend wisely. Love yourself enough to think about your future, even as you enjoy the present. This is a reminder for all of us!” she added.
