Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, urging him to sustain good governance and continue to meet the needs of the people of the state.
Obasanjo made the call on Sunday night when he paid a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at the governor’s country home in Ede, Osun State.
The former President, who was accompanied by Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, was received by Adeleke in an atmosphere of celebration, with the governor reportedly dancing and joining in songs of praise to God for the outcome of the August 15 governorship election.
During the visit, Obasanjo prayed for continued success for Adeleke as he prepares for another term in office, while urging him to remain focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo charged the governor.
The visit came shortly after Adeleke secured victory in the keenly contested governorship election, defeating his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The former President’s visit was described as a surprise by Adeleke, who expressed appreciation for the gesture and thanked God, the people of Osun State and supporters of democracy for his electoral victory.
Adeleke pledged that his administration would remain committed to serving the people and would not betray the confidence reposed in him by the electorate.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” the governor told the former President.
The governor also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to continue serving the people of the state, promising to remain a loyal servant of Osun and work towards advancing the interests and welfare of its citizens.
The Deputy Governor of Osun State, Prince Kola Adewusi, accompanied Adeleke in receiving the former President during the visit.
The congratulatory visit by Obasanjo adds to the series of goodwill messages and engagements following Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 election, as the governor begins preparations for his second term in office.
The former President’s message also underscored the expectations that will accompany the governor’s renewed mandate, particularly the need to consolidate on governance, respond to the needs of citizens and deliver tangible democratic dividends to the people of Osun State.
