Osun State chapter of Accord has commended the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tunji Disu, for his swift intervention in the security situation in the state, describing the move as a strong demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

In a statement issued on Friday and signed by the party’s State Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the party expressed appreciation to the IGP for responding promptly to the security concerns raised by Governor Ademola Adeleke on behalf of the people of Osun State.

According to the statement, the police intervention has reassured law-abiding residents that the Nigeria Police remains committed to maintaining peace, law and order regardless of political affiliations.

The party, however, urged the IGP to ensure that the intervention goes beyond deployment of personnel and surveillance by ordering the immediate arrest of Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba, and members of what it described as his criminal gang.

Accord alleged that the group had been repeatedly linked to acts of violence, intimidation, harassment and attacks on innocent citizens across the state.

“The continued freedom enjoyed by these criminal elements has emboldened them to constitute themselves into a threat to public peace and security. No individual should be allowed to operate above the law or be seen as untouchable because of perceived political connections. Justice must not only be done but must also be seen to have been done,” the statement read.

The party also called on the IGP to direct a thorough investigation into what it described as numerous allegations and reported criminal activities involving Asiri Eniba and his associates.

It maintained that anyone found culpable should be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to serve as a deterrent to others who may resort to political violence.

Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful politics, Accord stressed that democracy could only thrive where the rule of law prevails

The party further urged all security agencies to remain neutral, professional and uncompromising in tackling criminality, irrespective of the identities or political affiliations of those involved.

The statement appreciated the IGP for his timely intervention while urging him to sustain the momentum by ensuring that those accused of criminal activities are thoroughly investigated and, where sufficient evidence exists, brought to justice.

Pastor Akande said this, according to the party, would guarantee lasting peace and strengthen public confidence in the nation’s security architecture.
