Osun State Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons and the injury of two others following a suspected cult-related clash in the Imo area of Ilesa, Osun State.
The incident, which occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Monday, is believed to have involved members of the rival Aiye and Eiye confraternities in what police described as a reprisal attack.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command said officers who responded to a distress call recovered four expended cartridges and two Android mobile phones from the scene.
The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the killings and identify those responsible for the attack.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election, Samuel Etaifo, ordered the immediate deployment of the Police Violence Crime Response Unit and other tactical teams to the area to prevent further violence and possible reprisal attacks.
The command said security had been strengthened in Ilesa and adjoining communities through intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations aimed at restoring normalcy
The police warned suspected cult members and other criminal elements to desist from acts of violence, stressing that anyone found threatening public peace would be arrested and prosecuted.
The command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the state, particularly as preparations continue for the forthcoming Osun State governorship election..
Residents were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
