The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Radio, Television, Theatre and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU), OSBC Chapel, have commended the Osun State Government for fulfilling its promise to absorb 66 freelance staff of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation (OSBC) into the state civil service.
In a joint statement signed by the Chairmen and Secretaries of the two unions—Comrade Olawumi Olaniyi and Comrade Kamil Raheem (NUJ), as well as Comrade Kunle Makanjuola and Comrade Jelili Lawal (RATTAWU)—the unions described the development as a major relief for the affected workers and a significant milestone for the corporation.
The unions praised Governor Ademola Adeleke for honouring his commitment, describing him as a leader who keeps his promises.
They recalled that during the commissioning of the new digital transmitters and studios provided by the Adeleke administration for OSBC, including OSBC 104.5FM Osogbo, Orisun FM 89.5FM and Reality Radio Vision 96.5FM, Iwo, the governor assured the 66 freelance staff that they would be automatically absorbed into the state civil service.
According to the statement, the implementation of the promise demonstrates the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare despite prevailing economic challenges.
The unions further applauded the governor for making the absorption possible despite what they described as the financial constraints arising from the non-release of local government funds.
They also acknowledged the contributions of the management of OSBC under Mrs. Jolaade Igbaroola, the OSBC Board chaired by Engineer Mayowa Olosho, the Special Adviser to the Governor on OSBC, Dr. Femi Adefila, Senator Lere Oyewumi, other political stakeholders, and the Osun State Council of the NUJ led by Comrade Adeyemi Aboderin for their roles in ensuring the successful absorption of the affected staff.
The unions congratulated the 66 newly absorbed employees and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating greater dedication, professionalism and productivity in the discharge of their duties.
They expressed optimism that the development would further boost staff morale and enhance service delivery at the state-owned broadcasting corporation.
