Is your life a blessing to others?

Reflection for the day

By Olubunmi Adebayo

*You must live your life to be a blessing to other people’s lives around you.*

*Any life that is not seeking to better the lives of others through giving back (no matter how small) to the society can be likened to the Dead Sea.*

*The Dead Sea is a reservoir of water with some unique properties and peculiarities about it : it takes in water through River Jordan as its inflow, but it has no outlet. This makes the body of water stink badly.*

*It is a place where geography, history, and the Bible all meet. It was variously called the following names in history and in the Bible :*

*1) Salt Sea-Gen 14:3.*
*2) Sea of Arabah – Deut 3:17.*
*3) Eastern Sea- Ezekiel 47:18.*
*4) The Sea – Ezekiel 47:8.*
*5) Valley of Siddim – Gen 14:3.*

*As indicated above, the Dead Sea is one of the most unique places on earth – it sits right between Israel, the West Bank, and Jordan.*

*The Dead Sea is the lowest landed point on earth- about 430 meters or 1,410 feet below sea level*
*In size, it is about 50 km long and 15 km wide.*

*Why is this body of water called “Dead”? – Because it is 10 times saltier than the ocean. With the implication that nothing can live in it – no fish, no plants, only some microbes.*

*Not only this, people float automatically in it : the buoyancy is so high you literally can’t sink.*

*Another problem with this sea is that – it is shrinking very fast – about 1 meter per year. This is because Jordan River water gets diverted for farming and drinking before it reaches the sea. This has created sinkholes and exposed the seabed.*

*There are efforts though, in trying to save it by pumping water from the Red Sea.*

*Its mineral concentration is so high that even non swimmers can stay afloat in it. The challenge with this body of water is that it smells badly.*

*Any fresh water that comes into the reservoir through the river in flows is quickly contaminated.*

*Don’t be like the Dead Sea that is only receiving without giving back.*

*See your life as a way to give back to others, especially the less privileged around you.*

*Learn to sow the seeds of kindness into the lives of others.*

*Always remember this – there is nothing that you sow into the lives of others that is ever lost. Nothing!*

Do have a blessed day ahead of you 👍
