The Imole Campaign Council has commended recent security actions in Osun State, describing the arrest of suspected political thugs by the police as a positive step toward ensuring peace and security ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the council said the arrests signalled a return to law and order and would help create a conducive atmosphere for a peaceful electoral process.

According to the statement, the development followed a petition submitted last Thursday in Abuja to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, requesting the deployment of a tactical team to tackle politically motivated killings, arrest perpetrators, protect residents, and restore peace in Osun State.

The council expressed satisfaction with what it described as the swift response of the police leadership, noting that the petition was followed by the visit of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, DIG Adegoke Fayoade, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 to Osun State.

It stated that the directives issued by the senior police officers had begun yielding results with the ongoing arrest of suspected criminals.

The campaign council praised the Inspector-General of Police for what it called his commitment to combating criminality and political violence in the state, adding that the security measures had restored public confidence ahead of the governorship election.

It further expressed optimism that the strengthened security presence would encourage residents to participate freely in the election without fear of intimidation, violence, or coercion.

The council urged eligible voters across the state to come out in large numbers on August 15 to exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful atmosphere.
