The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Ondo State has called on government to immortalise Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, as he turns 100.
In a statement signed on Sunday by the state council’s chairman, Prince Leke Adegbite, and secretary, Mr Olaoluwa Meshack, the union said:
“Celebrating 100th birthday is not just a milestone that marks longevity, but also a legacy of resilience, wisdom, and love.
On this premise, the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ondo State Council, joins all sons and daughters of Akure and the entire people of State, both home and abroad to celebrate a centenarian and Afenifere National Leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti as he marks one hundred years on earth.
His enduring legacy as one of the founding fathers of Ondo ard his principles that resonate with simplicity, kindness, discipline and willingness to serve humanity, will forever engrave his name in our hearts, and will be treasured from generation to generation
Pa Fasoranti is being celebrated today as a beacon of unity and a custodian of democratic ideals whose mentorship, sacrifice, and significant contributions to national development will continue to serve as a guiding light for future generations.
The Centenarian has distinguished himself in all aspects as a true disciple of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and one of the last surviving Awoists, who have served the state and entire southwest region with distinctions through the Action Group (AG), Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), and later the Alliance for Democracy (AD).
Apart from politics, Pa Reuben Fasoranti has also contributed to the educational development of Ondo State through his teaching career and establishment of schools which including Omolere Nursery and Primary School, Akure High School, and St. Frances’ Academy, which he founded in honour of his late wife.
His education background cut across continents the University College, Ibadan (now University of Ibadan), the University of Hull in the United Kingdom, and Maguire University in Sydney, Australia.
NUJ calls on the Ondo State Government to immortalise the Elder Statesman by naming a prominent school in the state after him, as mark of honouring his unprecedented contributions to the educational revolution of the Sunshine state.
Once Congratulations to Baba!”
