Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has said that the Federal High Court Abuja order earlier today on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to deregister Accord, African Democratic Congress and three other parties cannot stay.
He described the judgment as a violation of a subsisting order of the Court of Appeal and an abuse of court process.
Reacting to the judgement while addressing reporters in Osogbo on Monday, the governor said the appellate court had earlier stayed proceedings in the matter until October and expressed surprise that the lower court proceeded to deliver judgment.
“Our lawyers have taken necessary steps to right the wrong,” he said.
Despite the development, Adeleke reassured supporters that the Accord Party would remain on the ballot for the August 15 governorship election.
“The judgment cannot stay; Accord will be on the ballot; we will be on the ballot and we will win resoundingly on August 15,” he declared.
The governor urged residents of the state to remain calm, insisting that attempts by political opponents to derail his re-election bid had failed.
He also confirmed that the official flag-off of his re-election campaign would hold on Tuesday, June 16, calling on supporters to turn out in large numbers.
“We will not be distracted. We remain focused on winning. By God’s grace and the people’s support, continuity shall prevail come August 15,” Adeleke stated.
