Osun State Governorr Ademola Adeleke. has commended the state’s performance in the 2026 National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination, pledging sustained investment in the education sector.
Osun ranked fifth nationally in the 2026 NECO ranking, with 74.31 per cent of candidates obtaining at least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
Adeleke, in a statement on Monday, congratulated students, teachers, parents, school administrators and other stakeholders, describing the result as an indication of improvement in the state’s education sector.
He noted that Osun had maintained a single-digit ranking for three consecutive years, from 2024 to 2026.
According to him, the state has risen from 33rd position in the 2022 NECO ranking to fifth in 2026, while its pass rate increased to 74.31 per cent.
“Osun has moved from 33rd position in the 2022 NECO ranking to 5th in 2026, while improving its pass rate to 74.31 per cent.
“This is encouraging, and it shows that our sustained interventions in the education sector are yielding positive results,” he said.
The governor attributed the improvement partly to his administration’s interventions in the sector, including the recruitment of additional teachers, improved workers’ welfare and efforts to create a conducive environment for teaching and learning in public schools.
Adeleke said the latest performance had further strengthened his administration’s resolve to invest more in education and provide students with the knowledge, skills and opportunities required to succeed.
“This result is encouraging, but we see it as a reason to do more. We will continue to invest in our schools, improve the learning environment, support our teachers and provide our students with the necessary tools to excel.
“We are building an education system that prepares our young people not only for examinations but for life,” he said.
The governor assured that ongoing interventions in the education sector would be sustained and expanded, while urging students to remain committed to their studies.
He also commended teachers across the state for their dedication and sacrifices, assuring them that his administration would continue to implement measures aimed at strengthening the education system and improving workers’ welfare.
