- Adamawa Shuts Down As Dignitaries Troop To Mourn PDP Chieftain, Former Minister
The remains of elder statesman and business mogul, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, arrived Yola, the Adamawa State capital, on Saturday night ahead of his burial on Sunday.
The body of the former Minister, one-time Governor of defunct Gongola State, and ex-National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party was flown in aboard a chartered jet from Abuja and received by family members and top government officials at Yola International Airport.
—MOURNERS FLOOD KASHIM IBRAHIM RESIDENCE—
By nightfall, sympathisers had begun gathering at Tukur’s residence on Kashim Ibrahim Street, Yola, to commiserate with the family.
The atmosphere was solemn as traditional rulers, political associates, and community leaders paid condolence visits.
Tributes continued to pour in, with many describing the late statesman as “a colossus” whose impact on Nigeria’s political and economic landscape cannot be quantified.
In Abuja, friends and associates who gathered at his Wuse II residence earlier in the day also recalled his legacy.
Speaking to AIT.live, some described him as a patriot who dedicated his life to nation building.
“He lived for Nigeria. From Gongola to the PDP, to his businesses, everything he did was about service,” one family friend said.
—BURIAL ARRANGEMENTS—
According to the family, Dr. Tukur will be laid to rest on Sunday at his family compound on Lamido Sanda Street in Yola.
Funeral prayers will be held at 10:00am at the palace of the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, before the interment.
The Adamawa State Government has declared support for the family and is expected to accord the late elder statesman full honors.

Dr. Bamanga Tukur, who died at 90, was a towering figure in Nigeria’s post-independence history.
He served as Governor of defunct Gongola State between 1983, was Minister of Industries, and later became National Chairman of the PDP between 2012 and 2014. In the private sector, he was founding Chairman of NEPAD Business Group and built interests in agriculture, petroleum, and finance.

The burial is expected to draw top political leaders, governors, traditional rulers, and business associates from across the country.
