The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, Bassey S. Ewah, has warned motorists and vehicle owners in Osun and Oyo states against the unlawful use of vehicle sirens, revolving lights, covered number plates and other traffic-related violations.
Ewah warned that the police would enforce relevant laws against anyone found engaging in such practices, irrespective of their social status, political position or other affiliations.
The AIG gave the warning in a statement issued on Thursday by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji.
He specifically cautioned motorists against the unauthorised use of sirens and revolving lights, concealment of vehicle registration number plates, unauthorised tinted windows and the use of unregistered vehicles in violation of applicable laws and regulations.
According to him, such unlawful practices pose potential threats to public safety, could provide cover for criminal activities and make it difficult for security agencies to carry out their duties effectively.
The police chief stressed the need for motorists and vehicle owners to comply with existing regulations governing vehicle registration, the use of emergency warning devices, vehicle window tinting and the proper display of number plates.
He noted that compliance with these regulations was essential to maintaining order on the roads, strengthening security and ensuring that vehicles could be properly identified when necessary.
Ewah further declared that the police would not tolerate violations of the relevant laws, warning that offenders would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
He maintained that no individual would be exempted from enforcement on account of their position or influence in society.
The AIG consequently urged motorists and members of the public across Osun and Oyo states to familiarise themselves with the relevant regulations and ensure that their vehicles complied with all applicable legal requirements.
He also called on residents to cooperate with the police and other security agencies by providing useful information that could assist efforts to prevent crime, protect lives and property, and maintain law and order.
The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to enforcing the law without fear or favour and ensuring the safety and security of residents across the two states.
