Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, on Wednesday led a half-a-million-man health and fitness walk in Akure in support of sensitisation on regular exercises.
The walk, which began at the Government House and terminated at the Akure Township Stadium, was organised by a group under the leadership of the immediate past Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Sports, Kehinde Akinrotoye.
Addressing participants, he said the exercise was designed as a health walk to promote physical wellbeing among the people.
He expressed delight at the large turnout, noting that the participants, drawn from government circles, civil service, civil society organisations, artisan groups and security agencies, participated willingly.
The Governor said the early morning turnout reflected a growing awareness of the importance of physical exercise for overall wellbeing, including mental alertness and spiritual balance.
He also addressed former political aides who were recently disengaged, commending their continued loyalty and visible participation in the march.
He assured them that the ongoing restructuring would not exclude committed individuals, hinting at fresh appointments.
“You remained committed even after leaving office. That loyalty will not be ignored. Previously, we had about 650 aides, but the plan now is to appoint 1,000. Many of you will still have roles to play,” he assured.
Aiyedatiwa further noted that certain positions remained critical, adding that some individuals would continue to be indispensable to governance.
Marking the beginning of a new month, the governor offered prayers for participants, urging them to complement physical activities with spiritual devotion through fasting and prayer.
He expressed optimism that the month of April would usher in good health, renewed strength and prosperity for the people.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Segun Omoyofunmi, said the massive turnout demonstrated the confidence in the Aiyedatiwa administration by the people.
