Troops arrive Osun for Saturday LG election

Combat-ready troops have been deployed to Osun State ahead of the Saturdaylocal government election.

Soldiers arrived in the state on Wednesday night to maintain peace and ensure the security of residents during the polls.

It was learned that their deployment, barely 48 hours to the election, is to beef up security in the state before, during and after the exercise.

A cording to a top security source, the troops were deployed also due to the recent violent clashes between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) over thecontrol of local government secretariats.

“We are here to restore peace against rising tension over the local government election and also to ensure that residents are safe before, during, and after the election.

“Our men have been drafted to volatile areas to keep their eagle eyes on the safety of lives and properties.”

Consequently ,the Osun State Police Command has assured residents of adequate security to protect lives and property throughout the electoral process.

Speaking to journalists in Osogbo, the spokesperson for the command, Yemisi Opalola, said, “The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has deployed mobile police personnel to the state to reinforce security ahead of and during the election.

“The police, together with other security agencies, will be present at all polling stations across the state to prevent any breakdown of law and order.”

Security operatives, including soldiers, mobile police officers, and other agencies, are expected to be stationed at strategic locations across Osun State to ensure a peaceful election.
