Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has expressed deep concern over the reported attack on Amotekun Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, describing the incident as an assassination attempt and a direct threat to the state’s peace and security.
He condemned the attack in strong terms and directed the police to conduct a full investigation, stressing that those responsible must be apprehended and brought to justice without delay.
The governor spoke after a meeting of the State Security Council in Osogbo, stressing, “The reported assassination attempt on the Amotekun Commander is unacceptable.
“It is a threat to the peace and security of Osun State. I call on police authorities to investigate thoroughly and bring the perpetrators to book.”
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of all Osun residents and pledged continuous support for security agencies working to protect the state.
The security council meeting, according to sources, also reviewed existing strategies and developed a proactive plan to ensure bandits and criminal elements do not gain a foothold within the state.
Also, the governor urged traditional rulers and community leaders in border towns to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or influx of unknown individuals into their areas.
Adeleke emphasized the need for heightened community surveillance in response to the banditry crisis affecting neighboring states.
“Osun is one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. We are keen to sustain that record. We should watch our borders. Bandits should not be allowed to infiltrate Osun State,” the Governor said.
He advised traditional councils across the state to monitor for unusual movements and discourage mass internal migration into Osun, especially in border areas, as a precautionary measure against criminal infiltration.
The Governor commended the Agbooro community in Ikirun and the Akinrun-in-Council for their cooperation with security agencies in peacefully resolving a recent situation involving a group of Bororo settlers. He urged other communities to emulate their swift, peaceful, and coordinated response.
“I commend the security agencies and the Akinrun-in-Council for acting promptly to resolve the matter. Our border towns should emulate this step and adopt open surveillance in partnership with security agencies,” he stated.
