Stop using EFCC as Political weapon, Imole Campaign Council tells APC

Osun State

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has accused the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to politicise the activities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a bid to intimidate supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

TICC, in a strongly worded statement issued on Thursday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the opposition party had abandoned issue-based politics and resorted to what it described as “cheap blackmail, false propaganda and intimidation theatrics.”

The council said it was disturbing that the APC had allegedly reduced the EFCC to a campaign tool, warning that anti-corruption agencies should not be dragged into partisan battles.

According to the statement, “Only people who are intellectually shallow and morally bankrupt will display their desperation using the EFCC as though the commission exists for political campaigns. The EFCC is a lawful institution carrying out statutory responsibilities and should not be turned into a campaign slogan.”

TICC alleged that the APC, having failed to convince Osun voters with what it called a recycled political agenda, had shifted attention to spreading rumours of arrests and investigations in an attempt to create panic within government circles.

The campaign council insisted that Osun residents were politically conscious and would not be swayed by fear tactics or alleged abuse of federal influence.

It also referenced former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, claiming he had continued to rely on federal connections after losing the governorship election.

“The people of Osun have moved beyond fear politics. What matters to them is governance, infrastructure, workers’ welfare, healthcare, education and economic growth, areas where Governor Ademola Adeleke has continued to record visible achievements,” the statement added.

TICC further alleged that those calling for investigations should themselves account for actions taken while in office, specifically mentioning the management of a $20 million primary healthcare grant during the previous administration.

The council maintained that Governor Adeleke and his supporters remained unshaken by what it termed “the empty noise of a rejected political party,” urging the APC to focus on presenting alternatives rather than spreading political tension.

The latest exchange highlights the growing political rivalry between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the APC as preparations intensify for the 2026 governorship contest in Osun State.
