The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, says he has made repeated efforts to get South-West governors to work jointly on addressing insecurity in the region, but claims his proposals have not been acknowledged.

Adams said he had written to the governors on the need for coordinated action to tackle security challenges across the South-West, stressing that a united response was necessary.

“I have written to South West governors calling for collaboration on security issues; all hands must be on deck to address this ugly situation, but for the past two years, they did not reply me,” he said while on Channels TV.

His comments come amid growing concerns over rising security incidents in parts of the region, with stakeholders increasingly calling for stronger inter-state cooperation and community-based security frameworks.

The state governor, Seyi Makinde, had confirmed the abduction of seven teachers from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State by suspected bandits.

Makinde disclosed this during a press briefing held at his private residence in Kolapo Ishola Estate, Ibadan, where he gave an update on the security situation following the attack on Community High School, Ahoro-Ẹ̀sínẹ̀lẹ̀, L.A. Basic School, Ahoro-Ẹ̀sínẹ̀lẹ̀, and First Baptist Church Nursery and Primary School, Yáwọ́ta.

The governor said one of the abducted teachers was reportedly killed while in captivity, according to a viral video currently circulating on social media.
