Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed as misleading a viral video clip allegedly suggesting that one of its senatorial aspirants, Akin Ogunbiyi, expressed doubts about the party’s chances in the forthcoming governorship election.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the party described the circulating video as “twisted” and taken out of context, accusing members of the Accord Party of deliberately misrepresenting Ogunbiyi’s remarks to create confusion within the APC.
The party insisted that Ogunbiyi remains a committed and loyal member, stressing that his comments at a political meeting had been distorted to suit what it described as the agenda of “political opponents.”
According to the APC, the video clip being circulated online does not reflect the full context of Ogunbiyi’s remarks, particularly portions where he reportedly reaffirmed his support for the party and its governorship candidate, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
The party maintained that Ogunbiyi, an insurance professional turned politician, has consistently demonstrated loyalty and dedication to the APC, both in Osun West Senatorial District and across the state.
It accused unnamed political actors of attempting to exploit the video to create internal divisions within the party ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
“The intention is clearly to mislead the public and sow discord within our ranks, but such efforts have failed,” the statement said.
The APC further alleged that the circulation of the clip was driven by political desperation, insisting that the party remains united and focused on winning the forthcoming election.
Reaffirming confidence in Ogunbiyi, the party described him as a dependable chieftain whose contributions to the growth of the APC in Osun State remain significant.
It also urged party members, supporters, and the general public to disregard the video, insisting that it does not represent Ogunbiyi’s true position.
The development comes amid heightened political activities in Osun State, with parties intensifying campaigns and counter-campaigns ahead of the governorship election.
Observers note that the spread of politically sensitive content on social media is becoming a recurring feature in the build-up to the polls, raising concerns about misinformation and its potential impact on public perception.
Ogunbiyi was one of the leading aspirants reportedly asked to step down for Oyebamiji after a meeting with presudent Bola Tinubu in Abuja
