Workers in Ondo State would start earning the N30, 000 new minimum wage with effect from January, as approved by the state government.
This was disclosed on Saturday after both government and organised labour reached an agreement on the payment.
The Nigeria Labour Congress, Trade Union Congress and the Joint Negotiation Council were represented at the crucial meeting with government officials at which the State Government finally agreed to pay the N30,000 minimum wage to the workers.
Besides, the state.s House of Asseembly, the judiciary and other top government functionaries were also represented at the meeting.
It was gathered that the parties agreed on full payment of the new wage from level six downwards while level seven above had experienced consequential adjustment.
Speaking on the development, the state’s Head of Service, Mr Dare Aragbaye, commended the labour leaders for maintaining industrial harmony, noting that the state government would continue to prioritise the workers’ welfare.
He disclosed that the government had also approved 33 percent for those who retired before 2014 and peculiar allowances for some workers.
Also speaking, the JNC Chairman, Mr. Oyesanmi Ilesanmi, NLC Chairman, Sunday Adeleye and his counterpart from TUC, Comrade Helen Odofin appreciated the state government for regular payment of salaries and allowances since 2017
The agreement was signed earlier yesterday morning by Aragbaye on behalf of the state government with organised labour representatives.
Under the new pay, officers on grade level 1 to 6 should enjoy the N30,000 new minimum wage while workers on grade level 7 to 17 will enjoy consequential adjustment on their salaries.
The payment will take effect from 1 January, 2020.
Aragbaye said the negotiations were carried out with sincerity and in the interest of the generality of workers in the state.
The Chairman of Joint Negotiating Council, Comrade Ilesanmi Oyesanmi; the NLC Chairman, Comrade Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole and the TUC chairman, Comrade Helen Odofin signed for the organised labour and workers.
