Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday appealed to former Deputy Governor, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru, to support the party’s reconciliation efforts and mobilise members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
It made the appeal during a courtesy visit to Oluwateru’s Akure residence by members of its State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, led by the State Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Kolawole.
The chairman said the visit formed part of the party’s ongoing efforts to consolidate internal unity following the recently concluded primary elections and to rally stakeholders behind the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Describing Oluwateru as a respected statesman and accomplished politician, he said the former deputy governor’s experience, leadership and counsel remained invaluable to the party.
His words, “We are delighted to have Your Excellency in our great party at this critical period. The APC in Ondo State and the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa stand to benefit immensely from your wealth of experience, leadership and fatherly guidance.”
He noted that disagreements are inevitable after party primaries in any democracy, adding that the APC had constituted a reconciliation committee to engage aggrieved members, address legitimate concerns and restore unity ahead of the 2027 elections.
Kolawole urged Oluwateru to deploy his political influence and experience in bringing party members together to strengthen the APC’s chances in future elections.
Responding, Oluwateru commended the leadership of the party for setting up the reconciliation committee, describing the initiative as timely and necessary for sustaining peace and cohesion within the APC.
The former deputy governor, who served under the late Governor Olusegun Agagu, said his decision to join the APC was informed by his desire to contribute to the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 and support Governor Aiyedatiwa’s efforts to develop Ondo State.
“It is imperative that we unite all members of our great party ahead of the general elections so that we can deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Ondo State,” he said.
Oluwateru reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC, describing himself as “an institutional man and a committed party faithful” whose allegiance to the party’s leadership remained unwavering.
He also reaffirmed Governor Aiyedatiwa’s position as the leader of the APC in Ondo State and urged members to place the collective interest of the party above personal ambitions.
“My appeal is that we should bring everyone together. I am fully prepared to support the reconciliation process and every effort aimed at strengthening our party. Unity remains our greatest strength, and together we shall emerge stronger and more victorious,” he said.
