A leading senatorial aspirant for Osun West District under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Akin Ogunbiyi has reiterated his unwavering commitment to the party, pledging not to engage in any action capable of undermining its collective fortunes.
He made the declaration on Tuesday at his country home in Ile-Ogbo, Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun State, amid controversy surrounding a viral video allegedly misrepresenting his remarks during a recent engagement with constituents.
The aspirant described as unfortunate what he termed deliberate attempts by political opponents to twist his statements, insisting that his comments had been taken out of context.
He noted that many party members who initially expressed concern later changed their stance after listening to the full version of the video.
“It does not add up that I would denigrate the same party under which I am aspiring. The success of the party is directly tied to my political ambition,” he said.
Ogunbiyi maintained that he remains a loyal party member who respects the leadership structure of the APC from the grassroots to the national level.
Alleges Smear Campaign by Opponents
He alleged that the controversy was orchestrated by political adversaries seeking to weaken his rising profile within the party.
According to him, findings from internal investigations suggest that the misinformation was deliberately spread to create division between him and key leaders of the party.
He specifically reaffirmed his loyalty and support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and the APC governorship candidate in Osun, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
Pledges Support for APC Candidates
Ogunbiyi vowed to actively support the re-election bid of President Tinubu and the governorship ambition of Oyebamiji ahead of the August 15, 2026 election in the state.
“Nothing will stop me from contributing my best, within constitutional means, to ensure the success of our party at all levels,” he said.
The senatorial hopeful cautioned against divisive politics, urging party members and stakeholders to focus on unity and constructive engagement rather than character attacks.
He described politics as a competitive space but warned against the spread of falsehoods and misinformation for personal gain.
Reaffirms Commitment to APC
Ogunbiyi concluded by restating that his decision to join the APC was voluntary and driven by his belief in the party’s progressive ideals.
He pledged to continue working for the growth and success of the party across all levels.
