- Asks youths, members be equipped with digital age skills
The Vice-Chancellor of Olusegun Agagu University, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa, Prof. Temi Emmanuel Ologunorisa, has commended Akoko South-West Youth Forum for the initiative to organize themselves into such a lofty group which serves as a platform to unify, guide, encourage and protect the youths in the area.
A statement by the institution’s Deputy Director, Information, Protocols and Public Relations, Mr Paul Adeagbo, said that the Vice-Chancellor, gave the commendation while receiving the group who paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the main campus, Okitipupa on March 10, and asked the group to look at the possibility of expanding the forum to accommodate the entire Akoko youth.
The statement said: “The university don commended them for their developmental objectives and for always conducting themselves in a peaceful way, stemming down anything violent and for handling issues that could degenerate into violence in mature ways.
“He told them that he had been following all their activities online through their whatsapp platform for some time now, adding that he was pleased with the way they handled an issue involving some youths and a drivers’ association, which could have degenerated into chaos, tactically and maturely.
“The VC also lauded the forum’s president, Comrade Ajayi Danjuma, and his team for their transparency and high sense of accountability in the area of fund handling.
“I must tell you that I am pleased to identify with a developmental group like yours, the VC stated.
“Prof. Ologunorisa urged the group to participate in governance so that they could be part of decision-making process in the country, stressing that as youth they must see themselves as agent of meaningful change and give birth to a society where there would be proper planning, rule of law, accountability and self-sustaining system that worked as obtained in the USA and other sane climes all over the world.
“He further encouraged them to find a way to initiate some development moves as well as equip youths with modern needed skills such as digital skills, business proposal writing skills, curriculum vitae writing skills and setting up of local e-library for benefit of the youths in their environment, among others.”
According to the statement: “Speaking earlier, Comrade Danjuma congratulated the VC on his success at the interview and for his eventual appointment as the fourth substantive Vice-Chancellor of OAUSTECH on merit.
“He wished him a successful tenure of office and prayed that he would move the university far better than he met it at the expiration of his five-year tenure of office, come 2027.
“Characteristically, the forum officially commissioned Imam (Alhaji) Dhikrullah Idrees and Pastor Ogbeye Timothy to pray for wisdom, protection, guidance and prosperity for the Vice-Chancellor, staff, students and the entire members of the University, host community and the country at large.”
