Doyen of Nursing, Mrs Ereola Adu dies

A doyen of Nursing profession in Nigeria, Mrs Rachael Ereola Adu has passed on.

Her passage was announced by one of her grandchildren, Mr Seun Adetola.

She began her academic life at old Emmanuel Anglican Primary School, Bishop’s Court, Ado-Ekiti about 80 years ago alongside other pupils who later became notable Nigerians including Aare Afe Babalola who shared same seat with her and Dr. Christopher Kolade, former Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and former Chairman Cadbury Plc.

She was the only girl in her class being a period when girls were not sent to school as a result of the sentiments attached to it by then.

‘Eye Nurse’ worked as a teacher in many primary schools across old Ondo State before joining the Nursing Profession through the famous Maria Assumpta Hospital, Ado-Ekiti where she was privileged to be trained by expatriates.

Mama Nurse, as she was popularly known, worked in  medical outfits in rural and urban areas of the old Ondo State and later retired as Hospital Matron  at State Specialist Hospital, Ado-Ekiti in June, 1993.

She worked with many notable professionals in the course of carrying out her duties.  They include immediate past Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo, a medical doctor, and the former Chief of Staff to former Governor Mimiko, Dr. Kola Ademujimi.

The deceased was a committed community and religious leader whose foot prints would continue to be a reference point in the society.

She was born  to the families of Pa and Mrs Emmanuel Faleye of Baradagba Family of Ado-Ekiti 89 years ago.

She is survived by Children, GrandChildren and Great-Grand Children among who is an Akure -based media practitioner, Seun Adetola,
