Customs partners Police to combat smuggling in Oyo

Customs Area Comptroller of the Oyo/Osun Area Command, Ben Oramalugo, has pledged to sustain a collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on anti-smuggling and revenue drive.

He made the pledge during a courtesy visit to Commissioner of Police CP, Adebola Hamzat at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters Eleyele, Ibadan in Oyo State.

Oramalugo emphasised the importance of synergy among security agencies.
He provided a historical context for the establishment of the Nigeria Police Force and explained its core responsibilities, stressing the significance of a clear understanding of the mandates and functions of each security agency to mitigate any rivalry.

The Customs Area Comptroller elaborated on the core mandates of the Nigeria Customs Service, which include revenue generation, trade facilitation, and the suppression of smuggling.

He noted the need for the Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service to enhance collaboration and strengthen synergy with the Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State to fulfill its responsibilities more effectively.

In his response, Commissioner of Police CP Adebola Hamzat, affirmed his commitment to the existing relationship between the two security agencies.

Hamzat noted the various reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, making it more robust and capable of serving other security agencies and the nation’s citizens.

He emphasised that there should be no rivalry between security agencies, as each one contributes to the nation’s security.
