The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11 Headquarters, Osogbo, AIG Bassey Samuel Ewah, has charged officers and men of the Osun State Police Command to uphold professionalism, discipline, integrity and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
He gave the charge through a statement of the police public relations officer , SP Ojedele Olanrewaju Tunji on Tuesday during a familiarisation visit to the Osun State Police Command Headquarters in Osogbo, as part of efforts to familiarise himself with the command’s operational structure, personnel and security challenges within his area of responsibility.
The AIG emphasised that discipline remained fundamental to effective policing, urging personnel to demonstrate dedication, diligence and commitment to their responsibilities while maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct.
He also stressed the need for officers to maintain an acceptable dress code, comply strictly with operational standards and uphold the ethics of the policing profession in their interactions with members of the public.
According to him, honesty, integrity and accountability must remain guiding principles in the conduct of police personnel, both in their official engagements and in their relationships with the communities they serve.
Ewah noted that the conduct of officers could significantly influence public perception of the Nigeria Police Force, urging them to avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence or bringing the institution into disrepute.
He said professionalism and discipline were essential to improving operational efficiency, strengthening public trust and ensuring that the police remained committed to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
The AIG’s visit was also aimed at gaining firsthand knowledge of the security situation in Osun State and assessing the operational environment in which officers and men of the command carry out their duties.
Welcoming Ewah to the command, the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, described the AIG as a go-getter and role model whose commitment to achieving results was demonstrated by his prompt familiarisation visit shortly after assuming duty.
The commissioner commended Ewah for what he described as a proactive approach to leadership, noting that the early engagement reflected his determination to understand the security landscape within his area of responsibility.
He also provided an overview of the security situation in Osun State and assured the AIG that the command would sustain the prevailing peace and tranquillity across the state.
The commissioner pledged that officers and men of the command would intensify efforts to maintain law and order, protect lives and property and ensure the safety of residents.
He further expressed the command’s readiness to work closely with the zonal headquarters to strengthen security operations and improve service delivery.
The visit, according to the police, provided an opportunity for engagement and the exchange of information on operational priorities, while reinforcing the importance of professional excellence and institutional cooperation.
Zone 11, which has its headquarters in Osogbo and oversees police operations in Osun and Oyo states, has continued to emphasise the need for effective policing, professional discipline and collaboration in addressing security concerns across its jurisdiction.
The familiarisation tour is expected to strengthen coordination between the zonal headquarters and the Osun State Command, particularly in efforts to sustain peace, improve operational effectiveness and respond to emerging security challenges.
