In a bid to further enhance peaceful co – existence among the people of Araromi Obu and Ago Alaye (Ikale), the Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government, Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya has inaugurated a 10- Man Joint Peace and Reconciliation Committee.
A statement by the Chairman’s Press Secretary, Mr Martins Fasusi, which was sent to The Radiance, said that the committee’s main mandate is to ensure that peace and tranquility are restored permanently to the communities as a result the undesirable recent disturbance in the area.
While inaugurating the committee at the Local Government Secretariat in Okitipupa, Adesanya stressed the need for peaceful co – existence among the people because of the long-standing relationship between the two communities.
He thanked the State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, for the giant steps taken so far in putting an end to this needless crisis by constituting a Judicial Commission of Inquiry headed by Tunde Atere, Esq. The panel has since submitted its report and recommendations to the governor.
Adesanya charged the committee members to be thorough in their assignment and ensure that lasting peace is restored to the affected communities.
He enjoined the committee to refrain from actions or utterances capable of reopening the wounds sustained during the unfortunate crisis.
In separate remarks, both the Chairman of Ikale Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Barr. Ilemobayo Ehinmosan; and his counterpart for
Araromi Obu Peace and Reconciliation Committee, Barr. Abisoye Monebi, pledged to be transparent, unbiased and work without any fear or favour.
They called on all stakeholders to give maximum support and assistance needed for the success of their mandate.A crisis over land dispute had ensued between the people of Araromi Obu and Ago Alaye (Ikale) in an attempt to enforce a court judgement; which led to the destruction of lives and properties.
