- says facility will boost Ondo economy

A member-elect of the House of Representatives from Ondo State, Prince Jimi Odimayo, has commended Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu on Wednesday’s approval by the Federal Government of a deep seaport in the state.
His commendation was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media/Publicity, Mr. Yemi Akintomide.
Odimayo, who will represent the Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency in the House, noted what he described as the governor’s unrelenting efforts towards seeking federal approval for the establishment of the port after earlier attempts failed.
The port project, which was initiated by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, administration of the late Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu in 2004, was finally approved on Wednesday at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the State House in Abuja, presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, barely two weeks to the end of his two-term tenure on May 29, when he would hand over to Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President-elect.
On assumption of office in February 2017, Akeredolu had represented the proposal for the establishment of the port to the Federal Government, an action that was followed by a series of efforts by both the State and Federal Governments on the planned project.
Odimayo said that the people of the State, especially those from the Southern Senatorial District, who will be the primary benefactors, should be grateful for the port to be established in the district, as the facility would automatically boost the economic activities of the six local government areas in the district including Ilaje, Ese Odo, Okitipupa, Irele, Odigbo, and Ile Oluji Oke Igbo.
“The take-off of a Deep Sea Port in the neighbouring Ilaje local government area, will massively impact and completely turn around the economic fortunes of Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency for good, and the people will be better for it.
“This is why on behalf of the good people of Ikaleland, I am appreciating our “Talk and Do” Governor for the success story of Ondo Deep Sea Port which is happening in our lifetime to the Glory of God and benefit of mankind.
“I wish to congratulate the Governor, the Minister of State for Transportation, Prince Ademola Adegoroye, and the entire people of Ondo State on the remarkable achievement of obtaining the Deep Sea approval in the State.
“This indeed, is a very significant milestone in the economic development of our beloved state.
“I will also like to express my heartfelt appreciation for the positive impact this achievement will have on the lives of the people of Ondo State.
“The Deep Sea approval not only signifies economic boom, but also presents immense opportunities for jobs creation, investment opportunities, and the enhancement of the livelihood of the people of the State.”
