A police corporal attached to the Ajaokuta Division of the Kogi State Police Command has allegedly shot his girlfriend dead before taking his own life.
The incident reportedly occurred around 9pm on Friday, throwing the area into mourning, although the circumstances surrounding the deaths remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
According to reports, the officer allegedly shot the woman at close range before turning the firearm on himself.
The bodies of the deceased were subsequently taken to a mortuary, while an investigation into the incident has commenced.
Attempts to obtain comments from the state police command were unsuccessful, as calls to its Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Afusat, were not answered.
The police had yet to issue an official statement explaining the circumstances surrounding the deaths as of Saturday.
