A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, has been arrested for allegedly impersonating his father during a promotion examination organised for employees of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
Monsuru was reportedly caught on Wednesday while taking the examination on behalf of his father, Musa Mohammed, an employee of the FCT Fire Service.
The incident occurred on the third day of the promotion examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission at the National Open University of Nigeria premises.
Security personnel deployed to monitor the exercise reportedly became suspicious and apprehended Monsuru during the examination.
During questioning, the suspect allegedly told officials that his father was ill and unable to appear for the examination.
He reportedly claimed that his father had instructed him to sit for the test on his behalf.
Monsuru also gave conflicting information about his father’s age, initially stating that he was between 67 and 68 years old.
However, Musa Mohammed reportedly told security officials that he would turn 60 in February 2027.
The father also said he completed his primary education in 1977 and secondary education in 1982.

Following the incident, both father and son were handed over to the police for further investigation after they had made statements to operatives of the Department of State Services.
The circumstances surrounding the alleged examination impersonation were still being investigated as of the time of filing this report.
