The Ondo State Chairman of the Democratic Leadership Alliance, Oluwatosin Israel Ayeni, has resigned from his position, citing the need to promote fairness, unity and political balance within the party.
Ayeni announced his resignation in a letter dated Friday, September 18, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the DLA at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Explaining his decision, the former chairman said he stepped aside to allow another senatorial district to produce the next state chairman.
He noted that his senatorial district was regarded as next in line to produce the governor of Ondo State, adding that relinquishing the chairmanship would provide an opportunity for another district to take up the leadership position.
According to Ayeni, the decision was intended to strengthen internal balance within the party and promote unity as the DLA prepares for future political engagements.
He did not disclose the identity of the person or the senatorial district expected to produce his successor.
Ayeni, however, stressed that his resignation from the chairmanship should not be interpreted as his departure from the party.
He reaffirmed his membership of the DLA and pledged to continue supporting the party’s leadership, candidates and programmes.
The former chairman also expressed his readiness to serve the party in any other capacity where his experience and contribution would be required.
Ayeni thanked the national leadership of the party for giving him the opportunity to serve as the Ondo State chairman.
He expressed optimism that the transition would be handled peacefully and would contribute to strengthening the party and advancing its interests in Ondo State.
