The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), has unveiled an ambitious development agenda centred on equitable distribution of resources.
He said massive infrastructure renewal, improved healthcare delivery, quality education, agricultural transformation and enhanced electricity supply will top his priority if elected.
Oyebamiji made the promises during separate campaign engagements in Ile-Ife, where he met with residents, transport unions, party supporters and traditional leaders.
He also paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, during which he sought the royal father’s blessings ahead of the election.
Addressing supporters, the APC standard bearer expressed optimism about his chances at the polls, disclosing that the Ooni assured him that the election would be peaceful.
According to him, the foremost traditional ruler prayed for a peaceful electoral process and expressed confidence that the people of Osun would freely elect their preferred candidate.
“The Ooni is fully with us. We are in his party. He said the election will be peaceful and that, by the grace of God, AMBO will emerge as governor,” Oyebamiji stated.
The APC candidate assured residents that if elected, his administration would operate an inclusive government that would ensure fairness in the distribution of government appointments, infrastructure and development projects across all parts of the state.
He stressed that no community would be marginalised under his administration, promising that every town and local government would enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“We will not practise nepotism. We will ensure an equitable distribution of the state’s resources across all towns. We will not deceive you,” he declared
.
Oyebamiji criticised the present administration over what he described as an unfair recruitment process into the teaching service, alleging that a substantial percentage of those employed came from one town at the expense of qualified applicants from other parts of the state.
According to him, an APC administration would ensure transparency, fairness and merit in public sector recruitment.
“We will not deceive you like the present government that employed about 80 per cent of teachers from a particular town.
Every part of Osun deserves equal opportunities,” he said.
He also expressed concern over the condition of public healthcare facilities, saying inadequate manpower has weakened healthcare delivery across the state.
The APC flag bearer promised to recruit more health workers, improve working conditions for medical personnel and create incentives that would encourage qualified health professionals practising outside the state to return home and contribute to the development of Osun.
“Our hospitals are in poor condition because there are not enough workers. Our administration will encourage health professionals to return home and serve our people,” he said.
Speaking on the welfare of civil servants, Oyebamiji pledged to invest heavily in regular capacity-building programmes aimed at improving efficiency and productivity within the state civil service.
He said civil servants, particularly teachers, would benefit from training and retraining programmes both within Nigeria and overseas to expose them to modern administrative and educational practices.
“I assure our civil servants of regular capacity-building programmes at home and abroad so they can improve service delivery. We will invest heavily in teachers because quality education begins with competent and motivated educators.”
According to him, education remains one of the pillars upon which his administration intends to build sustainable development.
He promised to rehabilitate public schools, improve learning facilities and provide teachers with the necessary support to enhance the quality of education across the state.
On agriculture, Oyebamiji described farming as one of the greatest economic opportunities available to Osun State, pledging to support farmers through improved seedlings, mechanisation and modern agricultural techniques.
Declaring himself a farmer, he said agriculture would receive priority attention under his administration as part of efforts to create employment, improve food security and diversify the state’s economy.
“I am a farmer myself. We will provide farmers with hybrid seeds that will increase productivity. Our agricultural policy will encourage more people to embrace farming and transform Osun’s economy.”
The APC candidate also recognised the strategic role of transport unions in the state’s economy, promising to work closely with transport operators to improve their welfare and strengthen the transportation sector.
According to him, a vibrant transport system remains essential for economic growth and commercial activities.
During his visit to the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oyebamiji unveiled several infrastructure projects planned for the ancient city if elected governor.
He disclosed that technical teams had already inspected some of the major roads requiring urgent intervention, assuring residents that rehabilitation would commence immediately after his inauguration.
Among the roads listed for reconstruction are the Enuwa–Fajuyi Junction Road, Ilare–Sabo Road and the Aderemi Road linking Ondo Road.
“I have sent my team to assess the condition of the roads in Ile-Ife, and they have submitted their report. By the grace of God, when I become governor, work will commence on the Enuwa–Fajuyi Junction Road. We have also assessed the Ilare–Sabo Road and the Aderemi Road linking Ondo Road.”
He explained that road infrastructure would receive priority attention because of its importance to economic activities, tourism and urban development.
Oyebamiji also pledged to renovate dilapidated primary schools across Ile-Ife, saying improved educational infrastructure would create a better learning environment for pupils.
He further promised to construct a modern market that would reflect the historical and cultural importance of Ile-Ife as the cradle of the Yoruba race.
According to him, the proposed market would not only boost commercial activities but also enhance the city’s image as a major cultural and tourism destination.
“We want a magnificent market that will make anyone visiting from any part of the world recognise immediately that this is the cradle of the Yoruba race.”
Reaffirming his commitment to improving healthcare services, the APC candidate said his administration would strengthen primary healthcare delivery, recruit additional medical personnel and provide better welfare packages for health workers.
He noted that improving healthcare would reduce preventable deaths and improve the overall well-being of residents across the state.
Oyebamiji also unveiled plans to tackle electricity challenges through a partnership with a German power company.
According to him, discussions with the foreign firm have reached an advanced stage, adding that the company has expressed readiness to generate about 3.5 megawatts of electricity to support artisans, small businesses and industries across the state.
He said improved electricity supply would stimulate industrial growth, encourage investment and create employment opportunities for thousands of young people.
“We have reached an advanced stage in our discussions with the company. The only thing left is for us to win the election, assume office and sign the agreement so work can commence.”
The APC governorship candidate reiterated that his administration would be driven by fairness, accountability and inclusive development, assuring residents that every part of Osun State would benefit from government programmes and projects.
He appealed to voters across the state to support his ambition at the August 15 governorship election, promising to provide purposeful leadership capable of transforming Osun into a prosperous, economically vibrant and socially inclusive state.
Oyebamiji maintained that with prudent management of resources, strategic investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and power, Osun State could unlock its enormous economic potential and improve the living standards of its people.
