The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has said the developmental achievements of Governor Ademola Adeleke have effectively closed the door on the return of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to power in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., the council urged the APC to use its planned local government campaign tour to reflect on what it described as the remarkable transformation recorded under Governor Adeleke’s administration.
According to TICC, the visible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare and education across the state would remind APC leaders of what it called their poor record in government and reinforce the people’s resolve to vote for continuity.
The campaign council accused the opposition party of refusing to acknowledge what it described as the governor’s achievements, including the construction of roads and bridges, rehabilitation of healthcare facilities and improvements in public schools.
It further alleged that the APC administration neglected the welfare of the people while in office, adding that the effects of its governance were still being addressed by the current administration.
The council maintained that Governor Adeleke has continued to engage residents by commissioning projects and presenting his administration’s achievements, while accusing the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), of pursuing power without sufficient grassroots support.
TICC also alleged that the APC and its candidate were making efforts to secure political backing outside the state to influence the outcome of the election. It claimed that such efforts had not yielded the desired results, insisting that only the votes of Osun people would determine the winner of the poll.
The campaign council further claimed that the APC hurriedly arranged its local government campaign tour after facing criticism over a lack of grassroots engagement, alleging that the choice of Ile-Ife for the flag-off followed a change from an earlier plan to begin in Osogbo.
According to the statement, the APC is experiencing internal challenges and a decline in membership, which it described as evidence of weakening public support.
TICC urged residents to remain vigilant during the opposition’s campaign activities, citing previous incidents of political violence in the state and calling on all political actors to conduct themselves peacefully.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful campaigns and pledged to continue supporting a free, orderly and credible electoral process ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
