An Islamic human rights organisation, Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative, has called on the Inspector General of Police to immediately investigate an alleged violent attack that occurred in Oluponna community, Ayedire Local Government Area of Osun State
.
The group made the call in a statement issued by its Director-General, Tadese S.A., following an incident said to have occurred on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, during which at least three persons reportedly sustained severe injuries.
According to the statement, the attack was allegedly led by a man within the community, resulting in panic, fear, and tension among residents of the area.
The organisation alleged that one Mr. Tijani Olaniyi, said to be the son of the Baale of Station Area in Oluponna, was brutally attacked with a cutlass and sustained serious injuries to his head.
It further disclosed that Tijani’s son and a female garri seller were also injured during the unfortunate incident.
“Reports further indicate that Mr. Tijani’s son and a female garri seller were also attacked and injured during the unfortunate incident,” the statement read.
“The attack has thrown residents of the area into fear and tension, as community members now express serious concern over the safety of lives and properties within Oluponna and its environs.
No community should be subjected to violence, intimidation, or lawlessness by any individual or group.”
The group condemned the alleged attack and urged the Nigeria Police Force to launch an immediate, thorough, and impartial investigation into the matter.
Ta’awunu Human Rights Initiative also called on security agencies to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all individuals found culpable in connection with the incident.
The organisation further appealed for increased security presence within the Oluponna community to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
“We urge the police and other relevant authorities to ensure justice for all victims affected by this incident and take proactive measures to prevent a recurrence,” the group stated.
The human rights body also appealed to residents of the community to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while allowing security agencies to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.
The incident has continued to generate concern among residents and stakeholders, with many calling for urgent government intervention to restore peace and strengthen security in the area.
